As a real estate agent, you may wonder how much value you can expect from a platform used mainly by millennials and Gen Z who may or may not have real estate in mind. But as the leading destination for concise mobile video, TikTok can be a viable marketing tool for agents because its users engage with content from a variety of sources rather than only with friends.

The key to using it successfully is to create short-form video content that engages a variety of users; property tours, for example, or tips on real estate purchasing or how to prepare a home to be sold.

As in all social media, it’s also a good idea to let your personality shine through. People like having a good idea of the real person behind the post.

Once you download the TikTok app onto your mobile phone and sign up for an account, you will need to set up your profile. Because you want people to know who you are and what services you offer, choose a username and display name that makes it clear – ideally the name of your real estate agency or team.

You will want to optimize your bio by including the areas you serve, a brief blurb about you and a link to your website. When you post, think what’s the takeaway I want from this post and how can I capture it in 15 seconds. It may take you a bit of time to relax and have fun with your posts, but you can develop your own style.

Be sure to use good hashtags, because a user who clicks on one hashtag will be taken to a list of other posts containing that hashtag.

With an average of a billion monthly users, the TikTok platform makes it easy to gain traction if you are personable and post engaging content. Checking the posts of your top competitors can help you get the hang of what kind of content works best.
